Is Your Office Accepting New Patients?
Yes! Give us a call at 301-662-0133 and choose option 1 for the appointment line and then option 1 "new patient" to speak to our business office to register your child.
Can I Visit The Office Before My Baby Is Born?
You may wish to schedule a prenatal tour which is an approximately 30 minute visit at any of our six locations (typically the one you think you’d visit the most). It is free of charge and not mandatory although many new parents find it helpful and informative. Our staff will review well visit schedules, vaccination schedules, give you a tour of the office and will answer any questions you may have. Please call our main number, 301-662-0133, to schedule.
Will One of Your Doctors See My Baby in the Hospital?
Our physicians have privileges and see patients at Frederick Memorial Hospital (FMH). If your baby is being delivered at FMH, please let the staff there know that you have selected The Pediatric Center doctors as your child’s pediatricians. The doctor on call will be in to see the baby after he/she is born. Once the baby is born, please call our office to schedule a newborn appointment. We typically have the newborn come in 7-10 days after discharge from FMH.
If your baby is being delivered somewhere other than FMH, please call us after baby is born to get the newborn appointment scheduled. We typically have the newborn come in 3-5 days after discharge from any other hospital.
Will My Baby See The Same Provider At Every Visit? Do I Have To Select One Office?
We strive for continuity of care for our patients, and encourage families to become accustomed to two or three providers for their well care visits. However, we know that illnesses cannot be predicted and at times it will be necessary for your child to see a provider with which you may be unfamiliar. Our patients are free to be seen at any office they choose.
Our Taney Aveue East office is open evenings, weekends and holidays with walk-in hours at our Taney Avenue West office Monday-Friday 7:30am-8:30am, excluding holidays. We have been using an electronic medical record since 2002, so that no matter at which office your child is seen, records are readily available.
Who Do I Speak to Regarding Health Insurance Questions?
Feel free to call the Business Office 301-662-1930 if you have specific insurance questions or concerns.
The Business Office wants you to know that a new baby is not automatically added to a family insurance policy. You must contact your insurance company and make the addition. Many insurance companies require that the request be made in writing. We strongly advise parents to call their insurance company within the first two weeks after the baby’s birth to request the necessary paperwork to add the baby to theirpolicy. In addition, if you are required to pick a primary care physician, please make sure one of our providers is selected.
Other Important Information
- Our providers feel very strongly that vaccinating children on schedule with currently available vaccines is absolutely the right thing to do for all children and young adults. If you choose not to vaccinate your child(ren), we will ask you to transfer care to another practice.
- We have triage nurses answering the Nurses’ Line whenever our office is open. They are available to you for any questions you may have regarding the health of your child. Please do not hesitate to call them when you have a question or need some advice.
- Our satellite offices are open Monday - Friday from 8:20am – 5pm. Our main office on Taney Ave is open evenings and weekends for acute illnesses. When calling on evenings and weekends, you will speak to a triage nurse who will assess the need for an appointment. Taney Ave West has walk-in hours Monday - Friday from 7:30am-8:30am only, excluding holidays.
